Federal Way Kings visit Bainbridge Island BAMFest Only two swimmers, Dan Smith and John Leet, made the trek up to Bainbridge Island on a rainy Saturday to swim at the Third Annual BAMFest meet hosted by BainBridge Aquatic Masters (BAM). Even though Federal Way Kings were in short supply, the meet was well attended with several good sized contingents from Western Washington University, Downtown Seattle Y Masters, Husky Masters and of course BAM swimmers themselves. There were a total of 79 swimmers, with 7 swimmers attending their first masters meet, which got them a standing ovation. The meet followed a high school format, meaning that there was a 200 free and 200 IM, a 500 free and the rest of the events were all 100's and a 50 free. There were men's and womens free and IM relays and a Fantasy Relay at the end of the meet. Team scores were announced several times and the announcer read off each swimmers name at the start of each heat, and gave a play by play during the heat. This added to the fun and excitement of each swim. The facility is an old pool used for competition, attached to a newly built pool with fabulous amenities; a steam room, sauna, very large Jacuzzi, a "lazy river" in the new pool which was fun to try to swim upstream in, and sprinklers and showers of all kinds in the family pool. The meet was very similar to our Champs meet that we host each spring, except that we were missing about 75 of you. Even with only the two swimmers from Kings there, we ended up with 10th place out of 18 teams and 8th out of 15 teams in the men's division. Maybe next year our team can show up in force and remind the PNA who has the best team in the Pacific Northwest.
