Bellevue Club 2005 brings out a strong contingent of Federal Way Kings: Federal Way Kings Results with Splits Sunday morning, February 20th found a strong contingent of 14 swimmers headed east to Bellevue for the third annual Bellevue Club SCM Masters swim meet. This is no ordinary meet because this is no ordinary club. You enter the building, go past the deli / cafe toward the entrance to the locker rooms. With separate locker rooms for boys and men, the rooms themselves are huge, carpeted locker rooms with tiled showers, tables, big screen TV, lighted mirrors with all the soaps, lotions, shampoos and towels provided. Did I mention the coffee and juice machines, medical grade scale and steam room? The pool itself used to be one 9 lane, 50 meter pool, which they divided into a 25 yard and 25 meter pool. The ceiling has two large skylights, and the end of the pool is a large translucent set of windows letting a lot of light in. And all the windows were well appreciated because of the gorgeous spring-like day outside. Their is a tiled Jacuzzi that seats at least 8 that cascades its water down into another Jacuzzi that seats 8 more. Though there were no bleachers, they had nice oak benches with plastic tops. At least I thought they were benches until a little girl asked us to move so she could get fins out of what turned out to be their equipment storage bins. Eight of us met at the King County Aquatic Center and carpooled in Wendy's van, meeting up with the others there. A lot of masters swimmers were there, 181 had pre-registered for the meet. The meet started on time at 9:00 and the meet wasn't over until 3:00. The team camaraderie was great with a lot of cheering for everyone's swims. We even had winning entries in all the relay events. I believe it was the first masters meet for at least three Kings that attended. Congratulations on coming out and being part of the fun. And it was fun. Just like practices are more fun when many people do them together, meets are definitely more fun when you have your friends there. And another nice thing about a lot of us attending is that we were able to talk each other into NOT scratching the 800 Freestyle at the end. I had missed this meet for two years now and heard so many great things about it that I wasn't going to miss it this year. And everything I heard was true. Special thanks to Cory Hilderbrand and her helpers for making us all feel at home in this private club, and a extra special thanks to coach Wendy for coming along and giving us splits, advice and encouragement. Go Team!
