Saturday, July 18th was a great day to be a Fat Salmon.  Three hundred swimmers converged on Madison Park on Lake Washington for caps, chips, instructions and a hearty good luck.  One a gorgeous morning with a relatively calm lake, 145 swimmers started the 3.4 mile course at 8:30 am, with 138 1.2 mile swimmers joining the race to the finish line.

 Chris Hinds came from California for the day to join his friend Jason who came in from Spokane.  Shannon Casey came with the support of her dad.  The race was also organized very well with a fleet of kayakers, lifeguards, boats and the Seattle Harbor patrol.

 Interestingly enough, everyone I talked to before the race nervously joked about how they were afraid of being the last one or even worse, getting plucked out of the water.  But everyone was pleased with their swim and for the first time in several year, no one was plucked out of the water.  The final finisher came in at around 2 hours 12 minutes and received the loudest cheers.
