Proposed order of events:

Goals:  Complete in one hour practice session, including warm-up
15 swimmers can fill most of the slots

  •             200 mixed freestyle relay

  •             200 free

  •             100 back

  •             100 breast

  •             50 free

  •             100 fly

  •             200 IM

  •             100 free

  •             200 mixed medley relay

Assume two heats for all individual events (one women's and one men's) and 1 heat for relays.  Allow 1.5 minute for 50s, 2 minutes for 100s and 3 minutes for 200s.

Total time in minutes
                        50 – 1.5 minutes x 2 heats                                     3
                        100 – 2 minutes x 4 events x 2 heats per event       16
                        200 – 3 minutes X 6 heats                                    18
Total of 37 minutes

If we allow 15 to 20 minutes for warm-up, we should be able to complete in about an hour.

There are seven individual events and two mixed relays.  Assume 3 swimmers for each gender for individual events and 3 relays in each relay event.  That means 14 x 3=42 individual slots and 24 relay slots or 66 slots total.   If we allow 4 splashes per swimmer, 15 swimmers should be able to fill most of the slots.

Proposed scoring:

Scoring should encourage participation.  I suggest 9, 6, 4, 2, 1 for individual events and double for relays.  Individual events will be handicapped by age with results separated by gender.  Relays will be mixed gender and handicapped by age,

Proposed Rules & Officiating:

USMS rules apply.  However, certified officials are not required.  At least one person should be designated starter/stroke and turn judge for each heat.  Can rotate so officials can swim.  Goal of two watches per lane, but can use one.  I suggest that we limit each swimmer to four splashes (can be all individual events or combination of individual events and relays).

Results:

I will provide you with a spreadsheet that can be used to enter times.  I have attached a draft version so that you can see what it looks like.  I will update it before our first meet.  You can print out a "blank" form and use it to plan who swims in each event.  Just enter each swimmers name, then mark which events they will swim.  We can also print out one for each lane for the timers to use.  Someone can enter the times in the spreadsheet then email it to me.  I'll merge the two spreadsheets from each team and compile the results. I will eventually make the process easier so that I don't need to be involved, but I suspect that I'll need to compile the results for at least the first two weeks.
